Ruth  | Catone | Goulding partners with collectors, both new and experienced, in meaningful and lasting dialogue, providing the access, research, and expertise necessary to build collections of enduring value.

The firm, focused on art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, foregrounds the passions, interests, objectives, and ambitions of our collectors and frames their purposeful engagement with the art world. We are unencumbered by any other agenda or financial interest.

ACCESS

Our relationships with collectors often last decades. Similarly, we have cultivated deep, long-term relationships with offering agents, from large multinational galleries and seasoned auction professionals to young and emerging gallerists, as well as discreet private dealers and collectors. These collaborations—bolstered by our meticulous coverage of the global market and by our unimpeachable reputation as honest, thoughtful, and diligent partners—enable us to provide expansive and leveraged access for our collectors in a competitive environment.

RESEARCH

Over the past two decades, our firm has compiled an unrivaled database of 70,000 artworks privately offered by galleries, dealers, and other agents: an exclusive and proprietary dataset that enables us to make shrewd valuations and offer market context well beyond what can be derived from publicly accessible auction price records. Coupled with our 7,000-volume library, we are uniquely positioned to build out the matrix of art historical and financial market analysis essential for well-informed acquisition decisions on both the secondary and primary markets.

Integration

EXPERTISE

Information is only useful when coupled with the expertise to distinguish true substance and value from fleeting trends. Our collaborative team’s expertise, developed through decades of research, relationships, and experience in the market, guides our collectors to works of significance and informed decisions about them in a field rife with noise and distraction. We provide nuance, context, and detailed interpretation in evaluating art offerings tailored to the interests and needs of our clients, as well as candid insight into the subjective and often opaque shifting indicators of critical and financial value in a dynamic and volatile arena.

INTEGRATION

With careful judgment, we work with our collectors to seamlessly embed the practice of collecting within their existing professional endeavors, personal relationships, and broader assets. Our discreet, long-view approach builds strength on strength, identifying and reinforcing the web of curatorial, personal, and relational meaning that informs our collectors’ interest in art. Our strategic counsel over time aims to elevate each collection as a vital component of our clients’ cultural engagement, ensuring that its creation represents more than a series of transactions. Judgments about enduring value for our collectors transcend considerations of financial worth, and our work extends to partnering with our collectors and their teams on philanthropic goals and commitments, generational and estate planning, as well as personal business endeavors and relationships.

COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE

The enduring value of a collection lies not only in the conceptual and analytic energy involved in its formation, but in the continual custodianship of the objects that comprise it. We are a full-service advisory covering the conceptual and technical aspects of collection building and management, assisting our collectors and their offices to manage the full complement of third-party resources necessary to protect, present, and maintain object-based collection value over time. These services include databasing, shipping, insurance, installation, storage, conservation and materials analysis, museum loans, disaster preparedness, legal affairs, and public relations.
